Game writeup submitted by American Padres

Padres hung tough for awhile but a few errors later we could not come back. Even though we lost we made it past the 1st round in playoffs and are getting better. The game had to end on 2 broken hands,Our pitcher took a comebacker off his hand and then our batter swung at a pitch and fouled off on his hand, Tom and Dennis I hope you get to feeling better soon. Thanks to all you guys for a great season and look forward to seeing you next year.

Game writeup submitted by American Bulls

The Bulls move along to the championship game with a good victory over a short handed but very tough Padres team. The game was close until the bottom of the 7th inning when Kelly Cleveland and Todd Goetze, subs being added into the lineup in a clutch spot, delivered 3 RBI with Kelly getting a bases loades single for 2 RBI and Todd beating out a double play and getting the other RBI. Steve Coffey put the game out of reach in the bottom of the 8th with a 3 run home run. Jay Foust pitched a great 7 innings with Kelly Johnson closing the game out. Good season Padres and we'll see you next year.

THE PADRES PROVED TO BE THE BETTER TEAM TODAY BEATING THE CUBS TO MOVE ON IN THE PLAY-OFFS. IT WAS A BACK & FORTH GAME UNTIL THE PADRES PULLED AWAY IN THE LATER INNINGS AND THE CUBS COULD NOT ANSWER. HOWEVER, THE CUBS SEASON WAS STILL A SUCCESS HAVING MADE THE PLAY-OFFS FOR THE 4TH YEAR IN A ROW. GOOD LUCK TO THE REMAINING TEAMS AND EVERYONE HAVE A GREAT OFF SEASON. Game writeup submitted by Mountain Dodgers

The Mountain Dodgers held off a stuborn and improved Mountain Red Sox team 18-14 to win back to back Mountain Division Championships. The Dodgers scored 8 runs with no outs in the first inning but it wasn't until tough closer Pete Galvan struck out the last hitter in the 9th inning that the victory was secure. The Dodgers bounced out to a 9-0 lead after one, then increased the lead to 13-2. Then, after some unusually shakey defense, the Dodgers allowed the Red Sox to close the gap to 13-6 with the bases loaded and two outs in the top of the 4th. Tom Marasa put out the fire and the Dodgers once again seemed to cruise to a comfortable 17-6 lead. However, proving that no lead is safe in the MSBL, the Red Sox chipped away and cut the lead to 17-14 in the 8th after some more miscues by the Dodger's defense. Showing that championships can be won with hitting instead of pitching and defense, the Dodgers crushed the ball all night long. Pete Galvan, Bob Scofield, Nande Lopez, Pancho Bernal and Frank Dicochea led the Dodgers attack, and Jose Pico, Tom Marasa, Pepe Valencia, Dave Carranza, Gasper Limon, and Lou Russo also had several hits each. The Dodgers would like to congratulate the Red Sox on a great year and for their never say die approach in the finals. They really defined the word "compete" when they could have easily given up after the first inning. We would also like to thank the Tucson MSBL and Dave Reynolds for organizing and running the Mountain Division. We look forward to next year and hope that we will have more teams and more games as the week night, "cooler" division heads into it's third season. Good luck to all the Tucson MSBL World Series teams! We'll see the rest of you in April, 2010!!

National Giants 8, National Crew 3

Game writeup submitted by National Giants

GIANTS CLINCH PLAYOFF SPOT. Josh Chlopowicz pitches a complete game, striking out 13 and only giving up 3 runs to pitch the Giants to victory. The Crew took an early lead. With runners on first and second base, Giants second baseman Gerald Oruna made a fine play in the hole snagging what looked like a base hit and throwing the batter out a first. A run scored. With one out and a runner at third, Chlopowicz retired the next two outs on strikeouts. In the top of the third with a runner on third, Hunt laid down a perfect safety squeeze to score Higuera (Hendricks ran for him). It was tied in the bottom of the fifth inning when the Giants looked like they were unraveling. The Crew had the bases loaded with two runs in. The Crew hitter lined out to Hendricks in rightfield to end the inning. The Giants in the top of the sixth inning bounces right back. Hunt singled the leadoff the inning. Mario Pesqueira walked. With one out Chlopowicz singles in a run to cut the lead to one. Baugher pinch hit for Rodriguez (Rodriguez had to leave due to a prior commitment) and walked. Garigan lined a double to the wall and drove in the tying and came winning run. Baugher came in to score with two outs when Homer hit a ground ball that the third baseman didn't field. Garigan scored on a passball. With the Giants leading 6-3 in the top of the 7th, Hunt walked with one out. Fernando Pesqueira singled. Hunt advanced to third when the rightfielder tried to gun Fernando out a first. Fernando twisted his ankle running down to first and barely beat the throw. Mario hit a grounder to second that scored Hunt. In the top of the 8th the Giants were able to add a tack on run. Orona leadoff the inning with a walk and scored on Garigan's two out single. Giants ending the scoring for the day at an 8-3 advantage. Chlopowicz only gave up three hits the final four innings. All in different innings. When Chlopowicz got the lead he didn't let it go. Not allowing any runs once the Giants took the lead. Chlopowicz ended the game in the bottom of the ninth with two outs striking out the final crew batter after he had fouled off about 5-6 pitches. Outstanding performance. Coach Garigan lead his team to the playoffs in his first season. Great job Coach!!!

This game was a highlight for Andy Hunt and his career in the MSBL. Hall of Famer two years back. Complete game, only allowing one run in the final 8 innings. Struckout 10 hitters and only walked two. Let's talk about Hunt's hitting. 3-5, 3 runs scored, 2 rbi, 3 stolen bases and a double. He's been a consistant player every year he's played. When I see a performance like that from a teammate who's only 2 months younger than me I want to talk about it. Giants needed this game to have a chance for the playoffs. They were a game out of the final playoff spot. The Giants jumped on top in the 1st when Orona walked, stole second and Hunt drove him in. With two outs, Garigan drove in Hunt to give the Giants a 2-0 lead. Hunt gave up a 4 spot in the bottom of the first. Giants tied it in the top of the second inning. Hendricks scored on a wild pitch and Hunt scored on a error by the catcher. Giants got two more runs in the 3rd to take a 6-4 lead. Higuera hit a sacrifice fly to drive in Pepe. Hendricks grounded out to score Homer who had stole second and went to third on a wild pitch. The Tigers got one run back in the bottom of the 4th to cut the lead to 6-5. Hunt shut the Tigers out the next 5 innings. The Giants bounced right back with a two spot to increase the lead to 8-5. Homer singled in Garigan, then stole second and third base and scored on a wild pitch. The remained the same until the top of the 8th when the Giants broke it open. Orona walked and stole second. Hunt doubled in Orona. Rodriguez doubled in Hunt. Garigan doubled in Rodriguez. Pepe singled home Garigan to end the four run rally. Final score 12-5.

A tough loss for the Padres against the CLASS-LESS CUBS!!!Apparently the Cubs felt it to be necessary to chant "Padre Killers" after the game. Everyone contributed. Mario Pesqueira got a couple hits leading off for the first time. Gerald Orona was big with the bat. Andy Hunt got three hits. Ernie Higuera made a couple of great defensive plays to save runs. Stevie Rodriguez made a fine diving play in centerfield. It was a good team effort with everyone playing good old fashion baseball.

American AllStars2 19, American AllStars1 10

Game writeup submitted by League Office

Another nice night for a ballgame as the American and Mountain Division All-Stars combined to showcase the best players in both divisions. Team 1 was managed by the American Bulls Jason Reddick and Matt Wach and had players from American Division teams Bulls, Padres, Cubs, Thunder, and Mountain Division teams Yankees and RedSox. Team 2 was managed by Mountain Dodgers skipper Herb McReynolds with players from American Division Twins, Orioles, Diamondbacks, RedSox, and Mountain Divison Dodgers, Braves, and Phillies. Team 1 starting pitcher was the Bulls Steve Coffey, who was followed by Bulls Kelly Johnson, Yankees Harvey Encinas, Yankees Oscar Escobar, Cubs Dave Montez, Padres Dennis Bracety, and Mountain RedSox Mark Giguiere. Team 2 starter was Dodgers Rene Hernandez, followed by Orioles Tom Van Wart, American RedSox Mike Ross, Phillies Bill Gardner, and Dodgers Pete Galvan.

The decision was made to play with wood bats, but there was plenty of scoring on both sides. Offensive highlights were provided by Padres Robert Marcigan, who hit an impressive 3-run 450+ ft. home run to left, and the Orioles PJ Marquez who legged out an inside the park home run after a miss of a diving catch by Team 2's left fielder.

The pre-game homerun derby ended up in a tie, with the Dodgers Pancho Monreal and Twins Matt Tiggas both hitting 2 homers in the first round, and neither player able to break the tie in the swing off. The winners split a $90 pot. Derby pitcher Mark Giguiere apparently thought hitting batters also counted, as he managed to hit 2 of his American Twins teammates with pitches during the competition.

Thanks to Matt Wach, Jason Reddick, and Herb McReynolds for managing the teams and getting the lineups sorted out, to Mark Stevens for running the PA and the scoreboard, Dave Reynolds for helping out during the game. Thanks to our friends and family who came to watch, and thanks also to Gilbert Wilson and the TEP staff for the use of the stadium for the game!

Game writeup submitted by American Bulls

Wow, what a game! Bulls finally come alive in the 6th and score 18 unanswered runs to overtake the Cubs 19-16. Cubs jump out to a 16-1 lead with timely hitting and good plate discipline and turning 3 double plays early on. The short-handed Bulls continued to battle and chipped away. Bulls were led by the bottom of their lineup and Kelly Johnson. Johnson pitched 3 innings of no-hit ball to get the win and hits the game-winning opposite field 3 run HR in the bottom of the eighth. Muskiet, Cleveland, and Foust get on base 10 times in 12 plate appearances to spur the offense. O'Connor added another opposite field HR. Every Bull contributed in this comeback win! Cubs, great game and too bad it had it be called in the 9th with the lights going off.

Giants win their second consecutive game in a thriller. With one out in the bottom of the 9th inning, Jerry Hendricks squeezed home the winning run to score Andrew Eisenhart who lead off the bottom of the ninth with a single. Eisenhart had stole second and went to third on wild pitch. It was a well fought battle between two long time components. The Rangers jumped on top in the top of the first with a two out rbi double by Hirales. The Giants tied it up in the bottom of the 3rd with a leadoff double by Josh Chlopowicz. With one out Chlopowicz stole third base and scored on Ernie Higuera groundout. In the bottom of the 4th the Giants took the lead. Andy Hunt leadoff the bottom of the 4th with a single and advanced to second on error on a pickoff move to first. With one out Eisenhart singled home the go ahead run. In the bottom of the 5th Mario Pesqueira walked and stole second. Pesqueira advanced to third on wild pitch and scored on error. In the bottom of 7th the Giants increased their lead when Jerry Hendricks walked and stole second. Advanced to third on flyout by Chlopowicz. Fernando Pesqueira got a clutch two out single to bring home Hendricks. Things started to unfold for the Giants in the top of the 8th inning. With two outs and no one on base a dropped flyball put a runner on second base. Rodriguez of the Rangers singled home a run to cut the lead to two. With two outs a passed ball allowed a second run to score and cut the lead to one. Giants defense was a little shaky in the 9th also. The Ranger leadoff hitter reached second on a infield error. With one out, another infielder misplayed a ball that allowed the hitter to reach base and a run to score to tie the game. Chlopowicz showed a lot guts and heart in the ninth. A lot of pitchers would be so upset at their defense that they wouldn't be able to bear and concentrate, but Chlopowicz handled the challenge and picked up his teammates to stikeout the Rangers hitter with the bases loaded to end the inning. Chlopowicz pitched a fantastic game striking out 12 batters. He improves his record to 2-1. The Giants go into a two week break at 3-4

Bulls get their first win of the season in dramatic fashion over the Diamondbacks. The DBacks played a great game as it was back-and-forth game throughout. New additions Muskiet, Kevin Boesen, and Lynn all made key contributions. All got their first hits and were on base a combined 6 times in 9 ABs. Boesen makes a great slide in the bottom of the 9th followed by Sapp's walk-off squibber through a drawn-in infield. (Don't worry Eddie it looks like a line drive in the scorebook). Sapp was 3-4 at the top of the order to lead the offense. Lynn gets the win with a 1-2-3 top of the ninth in relief of Coffey, Flynn, and Muskiet. Great game, DBacks!
