National Giants 10, National Angels 4

Game writeup submitted by National Angels

Great season ANGELS and awesome pitching by Ernie Cuen! Congrats to the Giants for winning their "2nd" championship in a row. The Angels made it out to play the championship after missing 4 of their key players, not to mention 2 of which were their outfielders and one being the 3rd baseman. I guess we learned a leason for next season though, which is to make sure we have 20 plus players on our roster. As for Jaime Cuesta getting ejected for sliding HARD into 3rd base, that may or may not have been intentional as well as Lueras wild pitch at Cuestas head. It's also a little ironic the benches cleared in this championship game and in the Giants previous playoff game against the Yankees.

Game writeup submitted by National Giants

The Giants win the their 2nd championship in row by defeating the Angels 10-4. The Giants jumped on top early scoring two runs in the bottom of the first on rbi singles by Josh Buzzard and Eric Garigan. The Angels cut the lead to 2-1 on an unearned in the 3rd inning. In the bottom of the 4th inning James Zucco doubled in the gap to score Garigan who had gotten hit by a pitch. Stevie Rodriguez walked followed by an rbi single by Mike Murry. Jaime Hernandez singled in Rodriguez to give the Giants a 5-1 lead. The Giants added two more runs in the bottom of the 5th inning. David Villasenor lead off with a double. Buzzard singled Villasenor to third base. Garigan hit a sacrifice fly to score Villasenor. Zucco hit another double to score Buzzard to give the Giants a 7-1 lead. In the bottom of the 6th the Giants added two more runs to their lead. With two outs and no one on, Josh Chlopowicz singled. Jesse Chlopowicz doubled. David Villasenor doubled in two runs to give the Giants a 9-1 lead. In the bottom of the 7th inning Garigan lead off with a single. Zucco singled Garigan to second base. Zucco got into a rundown after the catcher threw to first base after a pitch. While Zucco was in the rundown Garigan scored from second base and Zucco got back to first safely. Giants scored one in the inning to give the Giants a 10-1 lead. In top of the 9th, Chris Luera who had not walked a batter the whole game got a little wild walking the first batter and hitting the second batter. The next batter hit a popup behind the baseman into short rightfied. Josh Chlopowicz made a great attempt diving for the ball, the ball landed in his glove but popped out when he hit the ground. He had no play for any runners, but Jaime Cuesta decided he needed to slide about three to four feet out of the baseline to take out the shortstop. Unfortunately the umpires didn't see it they we concentrating on the play on the ball and the lead runner. The runner that started at second base scored. Luera threw a wild pitch which allowed the baserunners to advance without a throw. Cuesta on advancing to third base felt the need to slide cletes knee high as to do bodily damage into the Giants third basemen, who wasn't looking and was off the bag. The umpire immediately ejected Cuesta and benches cleared. Two of the Giants were ejected for foul language and the things settled down. The umpires did a good job restoring order as things could have gotten real bad after what Cuesta did. To blind side someone who wasn't even looking is a cowardly thing to do. It's like sucker punching someone with their back turned. It really shows the character of someone who does something like that. The Angels had a rally going and it basicly ended after what Cuesta did. The next hitter hit a sacrifice fly that scored a run and another run scored on a throwing error. Luera retired the next batter on a grounder and the Giants won their second Championship in a row 10-4. The Giants came to play and weren't going to be denied. Luera after getting an early lead buckled down and shut the door on the Angels offense. The Giants offense came through with clutch hits and played aggressive baseball. It was a good team effort.

The Giants the game a little shaky allowing two runs in the top of the first inning. But in the bottom of the second inning the Giants exploded for 8 runs and then 3 more in the third inning. Two of those hits were in the first inning. Jesus Hernandez pitched the last two inning giving up zero hits. Luera at one point retired 15 of 16 hitters striking out nine. THE RAYS AND GIANTS GET THE SHORT END OF THE BAT ON A HOT MUGGY NIGHT AT REID PARK. WITH 2 OUTS IN THE BOTTOM OF THE 9TH AND RUNNERS ON 1ST & 2ND THE GAME WAS CALLED AT 10:05, WHEN 1 MORE BATTER COULD HAVE BEEN THE DECIDING FACTOR. THE RAYS HELD A 7-6 LEAD AS BOTH TEAMS PLEADED TO ALLOW ONE MORE BATTER TO THE PLATE, BUT TO NO AVAIL THEY WERE DENIED. THE RAYS GOT ON THE BOARD FIRST IN THE 2ND WITH 3 RUNS AND THE GIANTS ANSWERED WITH 1 OF THEIR OWN. HEADING INTO THE 8TH THE RAYS HELD ON TO A 5-3 LEAD ONLY TO SEE THE GIANTS TIE IT UP, BUT IN THE TOP OF THE 9TH THE RAYS ANSWERED RIGHT BACK WITH 2 MORE RUNS TO GO UP 7-5. IT WAS A GREAT GAME FOR IT TO END UP IN A TIE AND NOT A WIN OR LOSS. MAY THE BASEBALL GODS PREVAIL AND ALLOW THE GAME TO BE COMPLETED. IN THE TOP OF THE 6TH THE RAYS BROKEN IT OPEN GOING UP 5-2 AS NOAH PITCHED 7 STRONG INNINGS HOLDING THE RANGERS TO 2 RUNS. IN THE 8TH THE RANGERS ADDED ANOTHER RUN AND GOING TO THE 9TH NOAH WAS LOOKING TO CLOSE THE DOOR AND CALL IT A DAY. AFTER GETTING THE LEAD OFF TO GROUND OUT, THE NEXT BATTER BATTLED & WAS ABLE TO DRAW THE WALK. NOAH GAINED HIS COMPOSURE AND WAS ABLE TO GET THE NEXT BATTER TO GROUND OUT INTO A GAME ENDING DOUBLE PLAY, BUT THE GODS PLAGED THE RAYS WITH AN ERROR ALLOWING BOTH RUNNERS TO BE SAFE. THE RAYS WERE NOT ABLE TO GET THE FINAL 2 OUTS AS THE RANGERS WERE ABLE TO GET THE TYING & WINNING RUN ON 3 STRAIGHT WALKS. GREAT GAME BY BOTH TEAMS.

THE RAYS FALL TO THE REAPERS 5-1 AT THE HANDS OF SOUND PITCHING THAT HELD THE RAYS BATS TO ONLY 5 HITS. THE RAYS WERE ABLE TO HOLD OFF THE REAPERS THROUGH THE 1ST 3 INNINGS WITH GREAT DEFENSE TURNING 2 ENDING DOUBLE PLAYS & AN OUTSTANDING DIVING CATCH BY MARIO IN CENTER. AFTER GETTING THE 1ST 2 BATTERS IN THE 4TH AND GIVING UP A DOUBLE THE RAYS MADE THE MISTAKE BY WALKING & HITTING THE NEXT 2 BATTERS WHICH LOADED UP THE BASES AND OPENED THE DOOR FOR THE REAPERS TO CAPITALIZE. THE NEXT 3 BATTERS DOUBLE, SINGLED & TRIPLED SCORING 5 RUNS. THAT WOULD BE ALL THE REAPERS NEEDED TO TAKE THE WIN.

AFTER SCORING 5 STRAIGHT RUNS AND GETTING WITHIN 1 FOR THE TIE, THE GIANTS WERE ABLE TO CLOSE THE DOOR & CALL IT A NIGHT. GREAT GAME BY BOTH TEAMS & GOOD LUCK TO THE GIANTS THE REST OF THE WAY. Pedro Erceg provided both the O and the D for the Braves, going 2-3 at the dish and getting 3 pick-offs behind it. Braves starter Luis Femath settled down after that and the Braves scored 4 more in the 5th to take an 11-10 lead. The Yankees squeaked out the tying run in the sixth, then with no time on the clock the Braves screwed the pooch. After geeting 2 easy outs, the Braves were unable to field an infield fly, putting the winning run on 1st. Next batter drove one to the right center gap, Braves centerfielder Mike Boese closed the gap but couldn't hold on, runner scored from 1st, game over! Luis Femath took the loss, tossing a good game except for the 5th. Rick Urcadez and Joey Perez led the offense both going 2-4.

Down 11-10 in the last inning with the top of the order up, Rick Urcadez (2-3, 4 RBI's) drew a walk, stole 2nd, then took 3rd on a wild pitch, the two hitter, Mike Boese, also drew a walk and advanced to 2nd, setting up 2nd and 3rd, no outs for Joey Perez who hit a hard one hopper off the glove of the the Red Sox 2nd baseman, driving in the tying and winning runs. Louie Pallanes also contributed with a 3-3 day. Wayne Cooper got the win, evening his record to 3 and 3.

American Bulls 13, American Padres 9

Game writeup submitted by American Padres

Padres play a good game for the season opener, The game only went 8 innings due to time time limit and who knows what the end result would be but the Bulls hit the ball well and the Padres had a few errors that cost for sure. Padres come back from a 10 to 1 score but could not close the deal. Erinn McMannus ,Billy Scogin and Eddie Aguilar turn in good pitching performance for the 1st game and new Padre Ben Mckee and old hand Rob Maracigan get great hits to lead the offense. Good game and good luck to the Bulls rest of season.

Game writeup submitted by American Bulls

Good game by both teams shaking off the dust of the off season. Bulls jump ahead then Padres fight back taking advantage of some timely hits and Bulls errors. Mike DeGroff comes up huge with a bases loaded 2 out double that clears the bases in the bottom of the 7th. Good news for the Bulls as what was badly broken finger turns out to only be a badly dislocated finger for Sean Flynn who returned to the ballpark to drink beers after a trip to the emergency room. X-Ray pictures available upon request.
