  • Passwords

Each team will be asked to choose two passwords - one to use for submitting results and stats, and another to use for submitting umpire evaluations.

Your password is case-sensitive, meaning that if you choose a password that has capital letters in it you must type the password exactly that way. For example, the password opensesame is different from OpenSesame.

Passwords should be something you can remember, but not something easy for someone else to guess. For better security, a combination of letters, numbers, and upper and lower case letters is best. Special characters and punctuation (i.e., $,#,!,.,@, etc.) are not allowed.

If you lose or forget your password(s), you can contact the webmaster by phone or email to get it reset or changed.

    Schedule Display

The "Schedule" link on the page gives you the choice of displaying the schedule in a variety of ways for convenience. You can choose to display the schedule for the entire league, either division, or just your team. All are printable simply by using your web browser's Print button.

If you have a team web page and you'd like to include a link to your schedule, here is what you need to add to your page (example shown for Senior Indians):

    http://tucsonmsbl.com/schedule.cgi?request=Senior+Indians

Note that if your team name is two words (e.g., Red Sox or Desert Diamonds) you must enter it without the space. For example, enter "Red Sox" as "RedSox".

    Lineup Cards

Once you have submitted your roster to the league and it is online, you can use the lineup card generator. This will give you a one-page printout with your roster and a blank that you can fill out to exchange with the opposing team at game time. You can print lineup cards as you need them, or make photocopies in advance. The lineup card link is on the main page:

    http://tucsonmsbl.com/lineup.cgi

    Player Attendance

A tool has been provided that your players can use to inform you in advance of games they will be unable to attend. Have them use the Absent for a game link off the main page to mark off games they will be absent. The direct link to this tool is:

    http://tucsonmsbl.com/ggg.cgi

    Submitting Game Results

Either team (or both teams) can submit a game result. All submissions will be logged by password used, so we will know who is submitting what. In the event that both teams submit and there is a conflict (winner or score), the last result posted will be tallied. Any discrepancies should be reported so they can be investigated and corrected if necessary.

The link, which is also on the main page, is:

    http://tucsonmsbl.com/tmsbl_scores.html

    Game Write-Ups

An optional game summary (written description of game highlights) can also be submitted with results. Here you can also include additional stats such as LOB (runners left on base), etc. No special formatting is required.

I recommend that you create and keep your write-up in its own file on your computer, then when you are ready to submit your game and the write-up, cut-and-paste your write-up to the box on the web page. This way, if you should have to re-submit it for any reason (to make a change for example) you don't have to type it all in again.

    PROFANITY

Game Notes and Write-Ups will not be editted for spelling, content, or anything else. If you use profanity in anything that you submit to the web page, your submission will be deleted in its entirety. Repeat offenders will have their passwords and access revoked.

Linking to Games on Your Team Page

You can include a link on your team page for viewing each game's stats and write-up (if you submitted one). Here's how to do this (example shown for Central Orioles v. Central Pirates):

    http://tucsonmsbl.com/stats_game.cgi?formaction=showgame&date=04/07/02&time=4:00pm&team1=Central+Orioles&team2=Central+Pirates

Note that you must have the teams in the right order (i.e., team1=visitor and team2=home).

You can also keep a link on your page that will always pull up your most recent game result. Here is the link you need:

    http://tucsonmsbl.com/stats_game.cgi?formaction=showgame&date=mostrecent&team1=Central+Orioles

This example will find and show the most recent game played by the "Central Orioles" that has a result posted.

    Standings

Standings will be computed and updated "on-the-fly". That means as results are posted, you will be able to see the standings changing in "real time".

The database will be backed up regularly, so if there is a problem or someone submits a bogus result, we will be able to recover and correct the problem.

Linking to Standings on Your Team Page

You can include a link to the standings for your division on your team page with a link like this (example shown for Senior Division):

    http://tucsonmsbl.com/standings.cgi?request=Senior&as_of_date=today

    Stats

The web page has support for entering and displaying player stats for offense and pitching. Support for additional stats may be added at a later date. The link is:

    http://tucsonmsbl.com/tmsbl_stats.html

    Entering Stats

Entering stats is not a requirement, but if you don't do it nobody is going to do it for you.

You do not need to enter stats for both teams (unless you're a really nice guy), only your own team.

We're going to great lengths to make it easy and keep the effort required to a minimum and still give you accuracy and lots of information.

    To enter your stats:

    1. Enter the game info first (date, time, field, etc.).
    2. Next enter your lineup. Simply select each position in the batting order and select the appropriate player.
    3. Go through your game book for each player and tally up their offensive production for each column.
    4. For pitching, enter your pitchers the same way as was done for batting.
    5. For IP (innings pitched), enter a third of an inning as ".1". For example, enter 6.1 if the pitcher pitched 6 and 1/3 innings. If the pitcher pitched 5 and 2/3 innings, enter 5.2. The software will automatically adjust the calculation to thirds.

    Displaying Stats

    You can display stats for:

    MY STATS ARE WRONG!!

RULE #1: THE FIELD SCOREBOOK IS THE "BIBLE" ON STATS. If you think something is wrong, look at the book. Maybe one of your at-bats was scored incorrectly in the book.

RULE #2: IF YOU FIND AN ERROR, HAVE THE PERSON ENTERING YOUR STATS FIX IT. A stats entry can be fixed at any time, for a single player or the entire team. The key is to make certain that the game details (date, time, field, opponent) are specified correctly and the data will go where it is supposed to go.

And yes, this data is backed up also and can be restored/fixed if something gets messed up.

    New Players (Not on Roster)

You will only be able to enter stats for players on your OFFICIAL ROSTER turned in to the league. If you add new players, you MUST notify the league office, and they will request that your on-line roster be updated accordingly.

This will help us make certain that new players are paid and have filled out all the required paperwork.

Linking to Stats on Your Team Page

If you want a link for this on your page, use (Central Padres as example):

    http://tucsonmsbl.com/stats.cgi?formaction=displaystats&team=Central+Padres&player=ALL

For league leaders (example shown for Senior Division):

    http://tucsonmsbl.com/stats.cgi?formaction=displaystats&team=Senior+LEADERS&player=ALL

Stats from prior seasons (starting with 2001) can also be displayed if you add (to the end of the above examples) &season=2001 (or other year of interest).

    Team Web Pages

The league now has an automatic team web-page generator that you can use and link to for your team. To view your team's generated page, use (Senior Yankees as example):

    http://tucsonmsbl.com/team.cgi?team=Senior+Yankees

If you have your own (i.e., a site you maintain, not the auto-generated one) team web page and would like a link to be included on tucsonmsbl.com, please email the webmaster with the link. If you would like your team logo displayed with the link be sure to attach the image file (.gif, .jpg, etc.) with your email.
